September 2, 2020 – Ottawa, Ontario, CanadaTutorOcean, a global platform where learners and educators engage on their own terms for the best possible outcomes, has signed two new post-secondary institutions in the U.S. and Canada to help educators and administrators deliver effective remote tutoring and academic support services for students, bringing to 25 the number of colleges and universities in North America that use the company’s platform.

Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM)

Morehouse School of Medicine, located in Atlanta GA, trains physicians, biomedical scientists and public health practitioners. The school was recently recognized as top among U.S. medical schools for its social mission that includes, according to its website, an “emphasis on people of color and the underserved urban and rural populations in Georgia, the nation, and the world.”

MSM uses TutorOcean to connect students with academic-related services such as student academic support and writing support, and career and counselling services. Some 61 tutors and five faculty members use the platform to deliver these services to more than 200 students. An easy-to-use user interface, available collaboration tools, and streamlined processes for managing accounts, attendance and access control, have made TutorOcean the right fit for MSM’s needs.

“What we enjoy most is TutorOcean’s ability to capture data in real time, which assists with our metric-driven decision making to best support our students,” said Dezarae Blossomgame, Program Manager, of MSM’s Office of Student Learning and Educational Resources. “Thanks to TutorOcean, we can continue to provide all students at MSM effective and efficient academic support.”

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU)

KPU offers bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations to successfully meet the evolving needs of regional and global employment markets.

KPU uses TutorOcean to coordinate scheduling and track online and in-person tutoring sessions. More than 3,800 students and 135 tutors use TutorOcean’s virtual classroom environment to achieve the next best thing to in-person sessions with file-sharing, white-boarding, chat and other features. KPU turned to TutorOcean in its search for a platform that was more stable, more cost-effective, and more adaptable for remote peer-to-peer learning and the professional development of its tutors.

“We consider peer-to-peer learning an essential and effective learning method to help students perform at a higher level,” said Lyn Benn, Director, Student Development at KPU and Vice-President of the Learning Specialists Association of Canada. “TutorOcean’s online platform provides our students with the peace of mind and the tools they need to make the most of remote learning, while meeting our high standards for quality, academic integrity, privacy and IT security. The TutorOcean team is exceptionally helpful and responsive to our needs.”
